Gatoh Shoji Explains the Current Status of Full Metal Panic 4th Season

In Fujimi Shobo's live program on Niconico Live, Gatoh Shoji mentioned the current situation of the fourth season of Full Metal Panic. He said "Due to the circumstances of the business, I cannot freely talk about the fourth season. The project is not dead but don't have high expectations. Please wait for the realization patiently. As long as I keep silent about the fourth season, you can take it that the project is still running. When the new season is officially canceled, I'll announce it."

The first volume of a spin-off novel "Full Metal Panic Another" will be released on August 20th. A new collection of the short stories of FMP will also be released on the same day.

Just a couple of exhibitions about FMP to be held around Akihabara in September. Nothing about any new anime project though.

Is there any news on what the announcement actually was? The latest issue of Dragon Magazine has already come out, so I thought we'd be hearing about something big by now.

I did manage to find this SUPPOSED image of it:

My Japanese may not be as good as Alice's English, but I'm pretty sure that's no announcement for a new season (a fan event scheduled for the fall; maybe an announcement there?).

Perhaps someone a bit more informed on the matter could clarify.

Just wait till late july that's when the magazine is out. I'm pretty sure it's a season 4 announcement.

I don't think a few vocal moefags and FMPfags (I fall within the former; Yuyushiki FTW!) on MAL and other international boards really matter to KyoAni and their potential profits.

Also, how is the fact that some people are mad at KyoAni's marketing direction indicative of whether it's appealing to a broader audience? If anything, it's proof that they are spreading to a broader audience, since their normal one is supposedly (according to you) angry about it since it isn't targeting them. .

I love moe (since I realize that not every moe show is the same, unlike some people who have only seen 1 or 2 shows, yet are the most vocal, generalizing haters out there) and I'm totally looking forward to Free! It's not causing me to get butt-hurt, as I realize that KyoAni has no obligation to make only moe shows that generally target my demographic.

Yes, because you can tell exactly what kind of show this is going to be based on a few CM's and PV's.

Also, according to your list, you haven't even seen K-On!, so have can you make such a comparison? Probably based only on what you've heard from the most vocal minority haters, which as we all know is soooo accurate.

Well they could adapt the FMP Sigma Sequel or its side stories. I think it's possible and hoping for it.

as much as I would like to, it has been 8 years since FMP! TSR first aired so I really doubt anything will happen...

It is not 15th anniversary issue of Dragon Magazine, but 15 anniversary of Full Meta Panic that the text is talking about.
