I didn't expect Light to get angry like this because of L

And much less did I expect L to reveal his identity
I'm not a critic or anything like that but I like to give my opinion

I haven't given it much thought, but...
Wouldn't it be better if I wrote someone else's name and manipulated it to make them kill L and then die? She was thinking the same thing when Light was going back to the station with Naomi.

As probably when translating my comment from Spanish to English the meaning of the text is lost, I leave it as I originally wrote it so that someone who speaks Spanish can understand it better.

No lo he pensado mucho, pero...
No seria mejor si escribiera el nombre de alguien más y manipularlo para hacer que mate a L y después que este muera? Pensaba lo mismo cuando Light iba devuelta a la comisaria con Naomi.

LOL how Ryuk is all twisted all along its body. And not gonna lie, his fellow shinigamis look like interesting comedic reliefs

"student" #162 can't just hold phones, pencils or pieces of paper normally. And then, he has the audacity to reveal himself. Great for Light / Kira that he never lost his temper until the return to his house, where he's finally free to rant and pick himself up again as already seen in episode 2.

(honestly... Since Gintama episode 25 i won't be able any more to take seriously those face close ups of the main two characters with red and blue hair, it immediately brings back the badass battle for hot pot Shogun. Lol.)

İ think this episodes is very good. Without giving spoilers, I can only say that it was a terrific episode where our main character and our enemy met.

Bro! The fucking beginning with Ryuk doing fucking handstands!!!! And then Light feeds him like a freaking horse! Suffice to say, this was a awesome to start off the episode which only grew more awesome not only because Light became a collage student but because of L's risky as hell maneuver to approach him directly, putting both him and Light in some pretty awkward positions in their battle of wits.

The in-universe L fangirl also made me smile.

I don't think I need to tell you what my favorite scene was this time, right?

WOWWW I didn't expect L to show himself in front of Light! Him saying that he is L, being top-ranked with Light and riding in a luxury car seems to say that they are on the same level and L is not afraid of Light at all! Hahaha. Now no matter what Light won't be able to kill him until.... until maybe some crazy idea pops into Light's brain. After all, Light needs a full name to kill someone right? So far L has only referred to himself as "L" without any last or first name.

what a genius move by L, risky but genius. Catch 22... They finally met, and L and Light tell their feelings. We'll see how long it lasts because this is the 9th episode, and there are 37 so let's see how long and how long it drags on.

Oh my.. the mental gymnastics that go through Light after hearing L suddenly reveals himself and him going to his room, losing his top and then manically laughing is just beautiful..

I somehow don't remember L showing up at college entrance and topping the exams..

Well I can easily say I did not see this twist coming, I thought with how careful L has been with his identity all this time it would be a while before he ever showed himself before Light, but he did it now… and this is just episode 9 lol, just how insane is this show gonna get later down the line if something this huge is happening this early. And you could even say L is stupid for doing this, it’s a huge risk, but I can’t help but respect the balls of this man for getting right up in Light’s face and saying “I’m the smartest letter of the alphabet”, and he did this masterfully too, to the point Light lost his composure and got pissed.

He pretty much put Light in a situation where he can’t do anything, he doesn’t know if this is the real L or not, and he knows if he writes the fake name he’s using it will kill the celebrity that actually has that name, and last but not least, whether this is the real L or not doesn’t even matter, if he dies now it will be all too clear who Kira is. So no matter how much I wanna say L shouldn’t have revealed himself, it really was a genius play, this is the first big W for L since he originally declared war against Light.

Also, I never expected L to become a fellow student with Light, heck I never thought we’d see Light get to college in the show lol, L really does look so goofy next to Light but I do love his dgaf attitude, and he even got a fan in the audience somehow lol, bro has that sleep deprived rizz.

Rewatching this episode just makes me appreciate the absolute audacity of L even more ♡ Seeing Light—our pristine, perfect academic king—standing next to L who looks like he hasn't brushed his hair since the 90s is such a mood :P The tension in the theater during the speeches is so thick you could cut it with a scythe. Even though I know exactly how this dynamic plays out, seeing L just casually drop the “I am L” bomb still gives me chills. Light’s internal monologue going from 0 to 100 while he keeps that fake smile plastered on his face? Incredible. The cat-and-mouse game hits so much harder the second time around >:)

the episode where the dynamics changes entirely. no more L out of bounds but Light vs L directly.

Light clearly took all his feeling an poured it in the episode end lol

I admit that despite I don't love L as much as Light, his character is getting better from this episode and on.

The problem I have is that I think it's ridiculous for L to put this much effort into investigating a few people whom he admits have no more than a 5% chance of being Kira.
are you following the story?
this 5% didn't came from thin air, and it's not as there's 95% that it's not them.
also something they changed in the anime, is that in the manga there are much more legs to Rey Penber investigated subject since he's the one called the his chief, while in the anime it's the death note that made his chief sending the FBI names. the anime fixed it because it was too big mistake coming from Light.
this 5% is essentially all what they have from what they were able to deduce. nothing else.
what would you like them to do? go back to step one and forget that the FBI deaths never happened?

Zadion said:
"detective's intuition" is not a good enough excuse to focus on something so insignificant.
lol detective intuition is 90% out of detective/mystery genre.

Zadion said:
Why, then, are they so relaxed?
a hot headed people cannot be detectives. to deduce cases you gotta be cool head. too rush and you would catch innocent people, which what happens in real life when people just want to close a case.
I dunno how much detective/mystery stories you watched/read, but being cool headed is #1 thing in those. being hasty never leads to the right answer.

Zadion said:
And that completely ignores the fact that no one has even bothered to question how Kira is killing people like this
again, are you watching the series?
in this episode L wondering exactly about that - that if he would meet Kira he should be able to deduce the method of killing.

DZento said:

no, you cannot use the death note to kill other people, only the one written. if you write it he dies by heart attack.
Light says this in the episode and it's in How to Use sections (dunno if in the anime, but definitely in the manga)

I would dare and say it was much more safe move than revealing himself to the police. he essentially putted Light in a position where even if he could somehow kill him with the shinigami eyes (as Ryuk suggested) he can't be sure that he's the real L.
also L doesn't know about the shinigami eyes, he assumes that Kira only method is name and face. it's very calculate move yet unexpected all the same. which just make this writing more genius.

TheColonel76 said:

my guess is that Ohba (the writer author) needed more off-limits setting for the upcoming arc than high school. college is much more open setting to let Light act more freely as Kira.
in the manga Light even says it (I don't remember Light says this in the episode) that in college it would be more easy for him to act as Kira.
