I was wondering why Light's dad handed the notebook while opening it like that, I was thinking that maybe that was a normal notebook but he only added one or two pages from the real thing which is why he opened it like that.

It would be awesome if he did that! but Light you ought to have thought of something like this!!! ughh

Also, im disappointed in you Light, *SIGH* he was prepared to kill his own sister even though it wasn't going to necessarily be of use/solve the issue, and even when he decided against it it wasn't for moral reasons or out of love for her.
To make a truly good villain he needs to be intelligent + relatable, at least A BIT

Light is awful.

The bird in the cage next to Misa was brilliant symbolism of her situation and relation to Light.

Mr. Yagami's questions to himself while in the plane are so profound. That hit hard.

This is going to be intense now that Mello has the notebook.

Also, this new shinigami sounds so bored and annoyed. LOL.

honestly still not a fan of either Mello or Near, and I have to agree with what some people at the start of this thread said- with the whole thing that the anime should've been split into two seasons. I would've much preferred if the first season ended with L's death and the second one started with the timeskip.

Also I guess with that shinigami at the end there'll be some sort of conflict between him and Ryuk? Not complaining honestly, even though Ryuk came back he's just been in the background the whole time and I'd love to see him in the spotlight again

So confused. Why did Light go through all that risk with the notebook?

bruh, a missile? i'm starting to think watari might be the elon musk of this world 🤣

interesting episode overall. overall, i find myself missing l. near and mello will have to do a lot to reach his level, and so far i don't really care much about them as they seem to be worried about engaging in infighting than actually do something about kira

satellite surveillance, landing a commercial plane in a random part arizona, a missile.. be for real. Also this episode confirms that Light abuses Misa, the anger and especially knocking thee drink out of her hand was crazy, why would he do that, just say I dont want the barley tea, tell her to fuck off or whatever but smacking it out of her hand is not okay.

Damn! Let it never be said that Soichiro isn't a good father because holy shit was that scene intense. It looks like Mello's gonna serve to be a real pain in the ass for both Near and Light.

On the plus side, It looks like we're getting another Shinigami in the Human Realm. I miss Rem.

I don't understand, why did the gang killed the guy in the helicopter? If they leaved him, it could have fooled N, are they stupid?
And what is with the new god of death who want his death note back? It will be hard for Light, it' s the beggining of the end

I find the way the story gives weight to kid like Near to be really ridiculous.. I don't get the choice of the character's age, especially since Near claims that CIA and FBI relies on him. The story could've been equally good had there been an experienced officer or individual instead of a child..

I don't remember Light ever thinking that he'd have to kill Sayu if things went "out of control" :O :(

A lot of this episode flew over my head though.. I don't remember all the officers around Near dropping dead.. :(

The background score in this anime is extremely good.

the most confusing episode of the entire season. There was everything, the kidnapping of Ligth's sister, the hijacking of the plane and then the murder. Everything is going too fast

Why does the first post on this thread have nothing on it lol, that’s odd.

Anyway, wild episode we got here, we pretty much saw Light bow down to Mello and let him have his way. Light watched his dad go in and save his sister and he couldn’t do anything but sit back and let the death note get taken, and while that was going down, Light was verbally abusing Misa which I’m ngl was kinda disturbing to watch lol, I know he’s never been great to her besides when it was convenient, but I felt for Misa there. And someone from back in 2007 had a great point, this is a big show of weakness for Light, if it wasn’t for the fact he has people close to him he wants to protect then this wouldn’t have worked on him. This is both a good and a bad thing, good because it shows Light is still human and has something that resembles a heart left in him, but it’s also bad because this means he’s not the unstoppable god he thought he was, and his weakness can be exploited.

Now I can see Light eventually casting aside what humanity he has left and doing away with those close to him, but that would be the true rock bottom for Light, so I don’t think that’s happening. But damn what a play from Mello, I guess this is what a chaotic L is capable of, he got the death note almost effortlessly, a shame the gang he’s with killed two of their own guys in the process but I can’t deny that the play was good. But now the question is, how long will Mello be able to keep the death note? Will he misuse it and get caught like Higuchi? It’ll be interesting to see.

Also RIP all those SPK guys, not sure how Mello knew all their names but it was a cool scene where we saw most of them drop. But this clued in Near on who is using the death note now, which means he and the fake L will be working together, ain’t this a familiar situation lol, I just hope Near can work it back around to catching Kira. And lastly, lol of course the moment the death note enters the US they bring the missiles out, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Every time I rewatch this part, I’m reminded of how violently the pacing collapses after L dies. Like, damn, it took three episodes for the plot to start rotting. Mello’s mood-swinging like he’s on his 12th caffeine shot. Near—who is apparently almost 18 but looks 14 at best—is fiddling with toys while his whole squad gets wiped out, and Light is literally doing nothing except accelerating the chaos. The Sayu thing still catches me, though; that tiny flash of him actually being human for once. But man… on rewatch, it’s so funny how washed he is after the time skip. Bro forgot how to play chess.

2024 rewatch / 14th rewatch

Near talked bad on Light for nothing, as he said in the end no matter what would'v been done there was no way they could retrieve the notebook. OG L would maybe delay Suichiru but he would probably go to Sayu anyway. so in the end it was a one way route. Near just wastes his breath for nothing, and in the end suffered more lost.

this episode proves something for a lot of people (her especially) that Light wouldn't kill his family this lightly. in the end he gave an excuse, but his hesitations says them all.

this manga have little more in the manga that adds more flavor, but to be honest I'm glad the Mafia arc going to end next episode. Mello in the anime is such a thin character lol

in Light favor, he was really stressed and freaking out of the situation he got into. not that I'm excusing abusing lol. just that a human in stress might get his anger on the surrounding him. it's pretty human thing to do.

much like in the L detective squad managed to figure the FBI agent came to the police agency - through the internet lol (the head of the FBI was there too, I'm pretty sure his name is on the internet)

nm, but Mello didn't played chess, he cheats all along, he just kidnaps whom he wants without question.

Pretty slow burner, but there was a bit of tension in this episode. I can totally see how the animation went down in quality after L died.

Near and Mello are interesting, with their flaws and strengths. They're not comparable to L. Kira, though; he's disappointing. Seriously, this guy was the one who defeated L?
